DIY: 8 Ways to Get rid of Black Knees/Elbow

Black Knees and Elbows is common in South Asian/African communities. And unfortunately I had them too :(. But how come all the celebrities don't have them? I wondered and then I did a little bit of research and came up with 8 Natural ways to cure it.

I was a little ashamed of them and I couldn't wear short/skirts when I was 13 but now I wear them without being embarrassed of them. Knees and Elbows become dark because of dead skin cells. To get rid of these dead skin cells, you need ingredients that exfoliate and bleach dark skin Naturally.

After trying out these recipes, It is very important to MOISTURISE. Any moisturiser will work but I recommend cocoa butter or olive oil or almond oil. If you don't moisturise them then they will become darker.

1) You Need:
Baking Soda
Milk

Mix enough milk to make baking soda a little damp. Apply the paste on knees or elbows and scrub it in circular motions.

Repeat these steps until you notice, your knees have became lighter

2) You Need:
1 tsp Turmeric
1 tsp Sugar
1 tsp Olive Oil

Turmeric lightens the skin and olive oil provides the moisture to dry skin. Sugar gets rid of the dead skin cells!
Mix them well together and Apply + Rub in Circular motions.

3) You Need:
Lemon
Gram Flour

Add enough lemon juice to make gram flour damp. Lemon is a natural bleach and will reduce the darkness. Apply + Rub in Circular motions.
However, gram flour can be a little drying on skin so if you already have dry skin then I suggest you not to try this remedy.

4) You Need: (I tried this one and it worked pretty well for me)

Almond Oil
Just rub the almond oil on knees. This oil has natural bleaching properties and will also make your skin glow. It is the most inexpensive way.
I did this every night before going to bed! And I noticed the results in only 2 weeks.

5) You Need:

Anything that exfoliates your body (loofah, dry brush etc...)
Scrub your knees with loofah or whatever you have, when you are having a shower and scrub with them in circular motions.
Sometimes the dark pigmentation is caused by the build-up of dead skin cells. And to get rid of them exfoliation is the key  :)

6) You Need:
Really amazing moisturiser. I recommend either Cocoa butter or Shea butter

Dark knees/elbows are also caused by dry skin, so you need A LOT of moisturiser if you notice your knees/elbows are flaky.  {P.S Shea butter is the BEST moisturiser I have ever tried}

7) You Need:
Sunscreen Lotion

Knees/elbows are most exposed in sun during summer. No doubt they will become dark if exposed without sunscreen lotion applied. You can use sunscreen lotion as a moisturiser and to lighten dark knees/elbows after shower.

8) You Need:
Aloe Vera Gel
Aloe Vera gel reduces dark scars/sun damage caused by over-exposure of knees/elbows. You can buy pure aloe Vera gel from any drug stores/pharmacies/health stores.

One of the tricks I used:
Take two strips of cloth that are wide enough to cover your knees/elbows and some almond oil. Apply almond oil on knees/elbows and massage it for 2 mins. Tie 2 strips of cloths around knees to keep the moisture in and leave them over night. In the morning, scrub your knees/elbows with loofah and wash off the oil in the shower. Moisturise your knees/elbows after shower and Repeat until you see results.

Hope it works for you guys.

Take Care.

    2. also if you want to lose weight do some exercises and eat healthy

      Delete
    3. Green tea tastes delicious! It really works on loosing weight.. I also recommend those who want get thinner to try to drink mainly water (1,5 l a day would be great, but if you only drink 1 l, it's also OK if you drink other things)no soda, no alcohol etc.

Note that drinking too much tea can be harmful to the bones. And if you're not used to drink much don't try to change your habits in one day (e.g. if you are only drinking 500ml (1/2l) a day ty drinking 550ml for sometime before drinking more). Not drinking enough water is bad but drinking too much water is worse. I know someone who had drunk too much water on day, she had to go to hospital. Also don't forget to eat(thrice a day!)! By drinking more water you'll urinate more by urinating you'll loose salt and other minerals.
So no excess. The difference between medicine and poison is how much you take.

  10. Which one have tried Krishna? I would like to hear your experience, also why do you think Shea butter is the best, what is the special thing about it? I use a moisturising cream with Shea butter and vitamin E but I don't see any differences compared to the other moisturising creams I have used, thank you.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. I have tried the Olive Oil one. And it works pretty well. Shea butter is really good because it is the best natural source that provides moisture into skin and gets rid of hyper pigmentation. If the moisturising cream haven't worked for you then it is maybe because of other chemicals with shea butter. So try 100% Natural shea butter and it might work out better :)

  45. I think you add just about as much baking powder as you want but it has to be enough to cover your knees and elbows entirely. Then dampen it with the milk.Don't overdue it but place enough to dampen. You should rinse it off and dry it with a soft cloth.

  102. I used the turmeric method, and i dont know how long it should stay there. and when I wash it off should I scrub it with loofah or just use my hand. And when I moisturize it with Olive oil, should I just let it stay there until my skin absorbs it? PLEASE ANSWER!

    1. You can leave the turmeric paste on for at least 10-15 mins. When you wash it off use water only and pat on to dry with a towel. Use olive oil as a moisturizer so keep it on for the rest of the day :) Hope that answers you questions!!

    Replies
    1. No don't use the soap. You can remove it with only water :)

  105. Why can't you use soap? For the milk & baking soda.

    ReplyDelete

    1. Because the soap wears down all the nutrients and effects that come from milk and baking soda :)

  106. My knees are very very dark although my thigh and legs are white.how long should I do these ways?

    ReplyDelete
  107. You can do them until you start noticing the results. There is no definite time frame because every one's skin is different so I can't tell. But I can tell you that don't give up if you don't see results even in 3 weeks because it always works if you are consistent :)

  108. Hey girl so I was just wondering what brand of olive oil you used? Or does it really matter whether I get the store brand or not? I've always had dark knees since I was really little and have always been super self conscious about it. But now I want to do something about it and I saw that you recommended olive oil so I thought I'd try it out!

    ReplyDelete
  109. The brand or store doesn't matter as long as it is Extra Virgin Olive Oil. Make sure you check the labels properly if it is 100% natural or organic! And don't be too conscious of it because most people have it and it's normal to be honest. So be confident in your own skin :) xx

  129. i have a question that should we wash our legs or hands with soap after applying the olive oil to it n i am also using sugar n olive oil then i made it into paste then i apply it to my knees will this work or i must only use olive oil for this

    ReplyDelete
  130. Yes you can use soap to wash it off after applying the oil!
Well sugar is mixed for exfoliation so if you want to scrub your knees to get rid of the dead skin cells then yes go ahead and add the sugar. Otherwise you can just use the oil :)
